As I was taking an afternoon walk along the beach, I encountered an abundant amount of ladybugs along the seashore at Rio Del Mar Beach in Aptos, CA on April 8th, 2009. There are nearly 400 different types of ladybugs that are found in North America. Ladybugs hibernate in colder weather (as you will see in some of my images). Ladybugs have various markings on the backs of their wings...this is because their spots fade as they grow older during their three to six week life span.
